1950 Old’s Woodie

Posted by:

This beaut was dropped off a couple weeks ago for some Wood Grain work on the sides and back deck. In case you missed the title of this little news blast, it’s a 1950 Oldsmobile.

Other than the fact that it’s gonna look really bitchin’ with some HCP wood grain on it, there are some really neat things about this car. First off, it is one of only ten known to still exist. Also, although there were similar models available from GM, the Old’s is the only one that had the rear hinged tail lights. So when you drop the tailgate, the lights hinged outward to they continued to point rearward instead of down.

This way your tail and brake lights till worked when your fourteen foot longboard was laying over the lowered tailgate. Pretty trick system really.

The rarity of this beastie is why we held this post for a few weeks… didn’t want anyone to know it was in the shop! LOL.

So anyway, it got some nice wood grain along the top section of the doors and the window frames. And on the back we did the entire tailgate. To make sure we were all on the same page with the look at wood color, I put together a quick sample panel you can see below. I think they really wanted to take it with them when they dropped off the car, but I kept it for reference.

Some finished images will be along shortly.
